I became interested in photography in the mid sixties when I was given an early model point-and-shoot Kodak. But it was another 10 years before I could do anything very exciting with the craft. I started by taking wedding pictures, but soon discovered I enjoyed the creativity of portraiture and fine art photography even more. Later I became intrigued by the technical details of commercial photography and interned with a master photographer in Michigan. Today, I continue to do some commercial work. Since founding The Center for Fine Art Photography in 2003, my focus has shifted to creating fine art images. Additionally, I offer a series of photography workshops for beginners and advanced amateurs. My passion for photography is rooted in my desire to convey a story in a single image. I strive to create visuals that mimic the early fine art masters' use of compositional elements to add depth to their stories. I most enjoy photographing people. I really want to create images that capture an essence of their personality. Sometimes we, my subjects and I, create images familiar to their friends and family, other times we collaborate to create images that represent an alter ego, a fantasy, or an image designed purely for the sake of its artistic value. If you have an interest in collaborating with me to create images of yourself for friends and family, or to express an artistic vision, I'd enjoy exploring the possibilities with you.
